1988 Salon, Champagne, France

I have tasted this Champagne once times before and it’s still a majestic Champagne with supernatural powers. Served in the same flight as 1990 “Comtes” it seemed more closed and mysterious than its crowd pleasing rival. After 20 minutes in the glass the Vulcan erupted and it rose to the glorifying status I remember it for with; peach, corn, anise, and roasted dark bread. The nose is insanely complex and tells its story with capital letters. Its definition is razor sharp and when you taste it you get a lesson in Le Mesnil mineral definition and acidity which is made for a long lasting life.

(Tasted May - 2007)
