2001 L. Pira, Barolo, Vigna Rionda, Piemonte, Italy

(Tasted at a restaurant – business dinner, impression only)

Served next to 2001 Cascina Francia from G. Conterno. Vigna Rionda was far more approachable on the nose, evolving; dark fruits, spices and beautiful subtle sweetness. The taste is breathtaking with balance and precision. Still very young, but not defensive. I love the wines from Luigi Pira.
