1999 Le Pupille, Saffredi, Tuscany, Italy

From opening this wine displayed a tight shield of rough peppery fruit. On the taste the wine had massive bitterness from what at first seemed like young tannins. As it got more air the tannin bitterness almost took entirely control of both taste and nose. I let the wine rest and hoped for better things to come out on day 2. It didn’t happen - even more peppery with a starting port nose – not signs of oxidation, but very weird wine. Day 3, totally undrinkable. Off bottle maybe? (NR)
