2001 Isole e Olena, Cepparello IGT, Tuscany, Italy

(TN from memory).

The wine is simply stunning. It is by far the most refined Cepparello I have tasted to date. I am getting more convinced that the 2001 Vintage in Tuscany for sangiovese is one of the best ever. The wine is a purity beast and shows how many faces the Sangiovese can have. Kirsch, strawberries, sweet subtle liquorice and the elegance is burgundy like, but still with a lot of Italian perfumes. The best thing about it is this purity, which combines all the floral components and is knit up with a backbone note of pencil, rosemary (herbs) and minerals. The taste is equal elegant – firm acidity, light at first in the mouth with killer palate sangiovese attack. Bravo! (97)
