2000 Le Macchiole, Messorio IGT, Tuscany, Italy

At first a bit sweet, but gained weight with the lovely Le Macchiole herbs. New layers constantly came forward

2000 Le Macchiole, Messorio, Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy

Deep red. Cabbage, sweet, vanilla, liquorice, glycerine with warmth and plum notes in a alcohol profile. Served this blind and many would guess overseas. It sounds a sticky – right?. But there is the Macchiole minerals and herbs along with a great long finish. It’s a seductive wine for sure, but I am missing the structure (94)

2000 Le Macchiole, Messorio, Tuscany, Italy

When you are tasting wine at this level it’s actually nice to smell a wine that it’s not in the league of the previous three Messorio’s, as you get confirmation of your point allocation. The 2000 seems less compact compared to the 1997, 1998 and 1999 which where all covered with several layers of fruit. However it has managed to loose its dull warm alcoholic component since I last tasted it. Bordeaux profile, once again – roasted coffee, vanilla, herbs, tobacco and overall nice. The taste is has managed to get a convincing structural base - immensely drinking pleasure with a killer mineral finish which provides character and purity. (95 pts)
