Tar, forest, herbs, truffles, mushrooms, smoke and very backward. A really tight core at this stage, but very complex. Taste is classic and really dry. Still a baby (92-94)
Tasted 14th of October 2005 : “Find Beaucastel” Glass: Riedel Sommelier Bordeaux Grand Cru
2000 L. Pira, Barolo Vigna Rionda, Piemonte, Italy
Pepper, smoke, red fruit, herbs, animalistic and backward. When I first opened the bottle I was really suspicious, as it was very shy. But in the big Riedel Burgundy glass – things started to happen. The wine is still very young – but despite its very dry and backward profile it’s a very complex glass of wine. Taste is dry and classic – a great wine for Barolo fans. (92-95)
Tasted 1st of September 2005. Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy Grand Cru
2000 L. Pira, Barolo, Vigna Rionda, Piemonte, Italy
Good “2000” – maybe too soft and round, but has these great herbs, which balances things in the right direction. Taste is big and bold, but I would like to have the acidity higher to give the wine more profile and edge.
