2000 Argiano, Solengo, Tuscany, Italy

From a Magnum bottle. The 2000 Solengo is great. In a mixed 2000-vintage in Tuscany the Solengo is spot on. I have not always been a Solengo fan. I have found the mixture of grapes to funky. Argiano has changed Solengo, so that it's now a equal part of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. They have left out the Sangiovese...And that is so much better. The wine has a very appealing sweet licorice nose with loads of blackberries and the fresh new oak. The taste is splendid, and concentrated with a long nice finish. The only bad thing I can say about Solengo is that it's not that complex, but I think it will evolve some more character over time, but then it would probably lose some of the sweet licorice..big dilemma (93+)
