Dark red. Toasted oak, coffee, smoke, herbs, ink. The taste is – spices, warm and elegant with a mineral note. It’s a nice wine with Bordeaux resemblance – but a little bit too simple. I missed a bit more complexity. (92)

1999 Le Macchiole, Paleo, Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy
(85% CS, 15% CF)
The blend has now changed once again. There is no Sangiovese left in Paleo. Very tight fruit core, with medicine, dark berries and minerals. Although it might not give much it was pretty clear to all around the table that this wine has plenty more to offer, just give it some time. Taste shows good potential, but right now the blackcurrant ending is teased by a far amount of tar in the finale. Rest this wine for 4-5 years. (92++)
